Kingston bridge span swings into action to edge Wessex Package 7 closer to completion

These are the moments one of the largest rail projects ever delivered in the Wessex region took a step closer to completion.

The video shows Spencer Rail installing two bridge spans on Platform 3 at Kingston Station on the London end over Richmond Road – a major part of Wessex Package 7.

Spencer Rail installed the structure during a possession of less than four hours.

Work started at 2.45am on Easter Saturday and was completed by 6.25am.

The main span over Richmond Road is 13m long and weighs 8.5 tonne. The second span over the embankment is 11.1m long and weighs 7.5 tonne.

Both spans were pre-fabricated, painted and fitted out with decking and trunking at Burley Fabrications in Sheffield and transported down by road and installed by a 200 tonne crane.
