Spencer Rail Engineering is pleased to announce that Spencer Group has been named on rail operator Greater Anglia’s £174m civils and building works framework.
The framework, which is managed by Transport UK East Anglia, is split into four lots, covering both lineside and non-lineside assets, and will run for an initial four years.
Spencer Group is one of just 18 contractors to be named on the framework, with the business being appointed to three of the four lots including Depots and Lineside (£31.5m), Stations and Non-Lineside Infrastructure (£106m) and Mechanical and Electrical (£30m).
Contractors appointed to the framework will deliver station, depot and M&E upgrades across the East Anglia network which covers the East of England, Inner London and outer North East London.
Spencer Group has over three decades of expertise delivering projects spanning all rail environments including depots, bridges, stations, buildings, and key infrastructure including track, signalling equipment and OHLE.
The multi-disciplinary engineering specialist has developed a reputation as a trusted rail contractor, and the appointment to the new Greater Anglia framework further emphasises the business’s position as a reliable and dependable contractor in the sector.
Operations Lead Richard Watson said:
“We’re delighted to have been appointed to Greater Anglia’s highly competitive framework.
“Being appointed to the three highest value lots within the framework demonstrates the breadth of our experience and capabilities, which covers all rail environments from stations to depots. This builds further on our growing workload in the Greater Anglia region and complements other exciting projects in this region.
“Greater Anglia is entering a major new round of renewals and station improvements, so it’s an exciting time to be selected for the framework. We’re looking forward to the opportunity to work with Greater Anglia as it enters this exciting new chapter.”
Greater Anglia has 133 stations and operates services from London Liverpool Street station to various destinations across the East of England. There are around 1.8 million journeys through its stations each week including Cambridge, Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester and Stansted Airport.
Spencer Group is already working with Greater Anglia on a separate project, to deliver the design and build of Greater Anglia’s first permanent wheel lathe facility at Clacton Rail Depot in Essex.
Once complete, it will enable on-site wheel maintenance of Greater Anglia’s train fleet; reducing downtime and improving service reliability for passengers.
In a separate project, Spencer Rail Engineering is providing technical support to revamp the roof of Great Anglia’s Norwich Crown Point train depot. The Depot houses more than 50 Greater Anglia trains, where they are stored and maintained.
