Accounts Assistant

Location – Hull
Team – Finance

As an Accounts Assistant you will be working as an integral part of the finance team, gaining further experience and knowledge of all aspects of the accounts role within a busy working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all income and costs are accurately entered in line with the company costing structures
  • Investigate and carry out cost transfers to ensure accurate contract reporting and to maximise revenues
  • Ensure all invoices / certificates have the appropriate purchase / subcontract order in place and are authorised
  • Ensure all payments are made in accordance with the company approval and authorisation process
  • Ensure all control accounts, supplier accounts or client accounts are reconciled each financial period
  • Take ownership of and rectify any queries identified through the reconciliation process

  • Ensure employee expenses are authorised and in line with company policy, process and pay to strict deadlines
  • Provide all data, as necessary, to enable the company to complete all HMRC returns in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with it’s statutory obligations
  • Updating and maintaining databases, spreadsheets, electronic and manual filing
  • Any Ad-hoc duties as required by the department

Requirements and Qualifications

Person Specification

  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • The ability to maintain and develop good relationships with both internal (Commercial, Delivery and Support Teams) and external (Clients and Suppliers) stakeholders
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and to work to a high standard of accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a busy and demanding environment
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to ensure all deadlines and targets are met
  • Strong computer skills including experience of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint) is essential
  • A flexible and ‘can do’ attitude is required
  • Construction industry experience along with a knowledge of the CIS would be an advantage

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) grades A–C including English and Maths and have previously worked within an accounts environment. Fully or part qualified AAT (or equivalent qualification) would be an advantage.
