Spencer Group encourages future engineers through creative learning in Erskine

At the beginning of December, a team of Spencer Group representatives paid a visit to St Anne’s Primary School, a local school in Erskine, Scotland, to talk to pupils about their work on local bridges.

Spencer Group are fast becoming one of Scotland’s leading bridge work specialists, having worked closely with Transport Scotland on a number of complex projects. Whilst the team have, and continue to, deliver projects across the country, they also take an active role in giving back to the local communities where they operate.

Having built a strong presence in Scotland in recent years and supported by Spencer Group’s expertise in bridge design and maintenance, the visit provided an excellent opportunity to inspire and educate the next generation into STEM careers.

The school visit, which was led by Diane Rowe, Customer Relationship Manager at Spencer Group, was part of a local landmarks project the children are currently working on about Erskine Bridge.

Diane, alongside other Spencer Group colleagues, including Tom Crossland, Site Engineer, Joan Bryans, Admin Assistant, and Derek Dowall, Project Director, delivered a presentation about their work and asked the children to paint pictures of the bridge for the team to display in their on-site meeting room.

The team were then tasked with selecting their three favourite paintings and presented each winning child with a prize. The children’s enthusiasm and creativity left a lasting impression on the Spencer Group team, who were proud to see how quickly the pupils embraced the activity.

Diane Rowe, Customer Relationship Manager at Spencer Group said:

“We had such an enjoyable visit to St Anne’s Primary School to talk to the children as part of their learning about local landmarks. The children had made some amazing models and paintings, and they were so engaged and interested in the topic and asked some really great questions! Thank you, St Anne’s, for a memorable visit!”
