In 2025, Spencer Group chose the Lighthouse Charity to be its official Charity of the Year, an organisation that supports the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families.
Through the dedication of Spencer Group employees and its team of Charity Champions, the company raised an impressive £18,646 for the charity, which will help provide vital support to construction workers across the UK and Ireland.
Although Lighthouse’s time as official Charity of the Year has come to a close, the Spencer Group is extending its support through a partnership, which will include access to staff training programmes and nationwide #MakeItVisible site visits, ensuring employees can continue to benefit from the charity’s expertise throughout the year.
Working in an industry where open conversations surrounding mental health and financial pressures can be difficult, the support from the Lighthouse team played an important role in helping Spencer Group employees access the help they needed.
As part of this support, the Lighthouse #MakeItVisible team visited two of the company’s sites, Carrington and Clacton, where a total of 76 employees benefited from insightful talks and powerful conversations surrounding mental health and wellbeing.
Alongside the emotional support the charity provided, the team also delivered vital awareness training courses on topics around mental, physical and financial wellbeing, the cost of which would have exceeded £5,000, had this been procured outside of the partnership.

Spencer Group employees had the opportunity to take part in courses covering Andropause, Menopause, Imposter Syndrome, Suicide Awareness and Neurodiversity, all of which played a valuable role in raising awareness and deepening understanding among attendees.
The charity also delivered a range of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) awareness courses, including an introductory session, a two-day programme and a refresher. These courses helped the company’s team of Mental Health First Aiders strengthen their knowledge and confidence in continuing to provide vital support to their colleagues.
Throughout the partnership, Spencer Group also supported the charity’s monthly awareness campaigns by adapting their materials into toolbox talks and distributing them across sites as part of their theme of the month initiative.
This ongoing support builds on the success of the year-long partnership, which had a significant impact across the company, strengthening awareness of mental health and wellbeing across the organisation and reinforcing a culture where employees feel supported to seek help when needed.
Claire Ransom, Quality Manager and Charity Champion at Spencer Group, said:
“At Spencer Group, we believe that a truly supportive workplace culture starts with making sure people feel safe to ask for help. The Lighthouse Charity has been a vital partner in helping us do that, and we’re delighted to be continuing our support. The work they do across the construction industry is invaluable, and we remain fully committed to championing it within our organisation and across our sites.”
Sarah Bolton, CEO of the Lighthouse Charity said:
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to Spencer Group for their continued support, both in terms of their ongoing commitment as a company supporter and also contributing to a positive and supportive mental health culture in our industry.”
