We are looking for an experienced and highly capable Communications & Content Executive to support communications across Spencer Group and its businesses.
Working within the Marketing Team, the role will be responsible for identifying, developing and communicating the stories and information that matter to our employees, customers, industry stakeholders and the wider media.
With a strong emphasis on excellent written communication, the role will lead day-to-day PR activity, maintain close relationships with project teams to capture news and project information, produce and edit high-quality content for our websites and wider marketing activity, and coordinate key internal communications.
This is a varied role requiring someone who can move comfortably between technical project information, corporate communications, PR and employee communications, adapting content and tone for different audiences while maintaining a consistently high standard.
What you’ll be doing
External Communication & PR
- Identify and develop positive PR opportunities across Spencer Group and its businesses, working closely with colleagues across projects, operations and management.
- Write and distribute press releases, articles, case studies and other external communications.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with relevant journalists, publications and industry contacts.
- Coordinate media enquiries, interviews and other PR opportunities, ensuring responses are accurate, timely and appropriate.
- Support the management of sensitive or reputational communications where required.
- Monitor relevant media coverage and identify opportunities to increase the visibility of Spencer Group and its businesses.
- Ensure external communications are consistent with each business’s positioning, messaging and brand.
Project Communications & Content Pipeline
- Lead regular project update meetings with project managers and operational teams across the Group to understand current activity, milestones, achievements and forthcoming opportunities.
- Maintain and develop the Group’s project/content tracker, ensuring relevant information is captured accurately and kept up to date.
- Identify stories and content opportunities arising from projects for use across PR, websites, social media, awards, marketing campaigns and other communications.
- Ensure useful project information and content is available to support wider business requirements, including bids, business development and corporate materials.
- Build strong working relationships with operational teams, encouraging a regular flow of information between projects and Marketing.
- Where appropriate, visit projects and sites to develop first-hand understanding and identify communications opportunities.
Copywriting & Editorial
- Write clear, engaging and accurate copy for new and existing Group websites, including service and sector pages, project profiles, articles and other corporate content.
- Translate complex engineering, technical and project information into accessible and compelling content for different audiences.
- Write and edit marketing and corporate communications across a range of formats.
- Proofread and edit key content produced across the Marketing Team and wider business, ensuring accuracy, consistency, appropriate tone of voice and high editorial standards.
- Work with colleagues and subject matter experts to verify technical information and ensure published content accurately represents the Group’s capabilities and experience.
- Help maintain consistent messaging, terminology and tone of voice across Group communications.
Internal Communications and Engagement
- Plan and coordinate key internal communications across Spencer Group, ensuring employees are kept informed about important company news, projects, achievements and initiatives.
- Maintain an internal communications plan/calendar, working with colleagues across the business to identify forthcoming communications requirements.
- Produce engaging internal news stories, announcements and campaign content.
- Support key employee engagement campaigns and initiatives, working with HR, Marketing and other teams as appropriate.
- Work with colleagues across sites, projects and offices to identify employee and project stories that should be shared internally.
- Support communications around significant business updates, employee initiatives and organisational activity.
- Help ensure internal communications are clear, timely, relevant and appropriate for employees working across different locations and environments.
- Gather feedback and monitor engagement where appropriate to help improve future communications.
Communications Planning & Collaboration
- Work closely with the wider Marketing Team to ensure internal and external communications are coordinated and support wider marketing priorities.
- Develop strong relationships with stakeholders throughout Spencer Group, proactively seeking information and identifying communications opportunities.
- Manage competing communications priorities and maintain an effective forward pipeline of content.
- Support communications relating to key corporate events, exhibitions and stakeholder activities where required.
- Provide communications and editorial advice to colleagues across the business.
- Contribute ideas and recommendations to continually improve the effectiveness and quality of Group communications.

- The confidence to interview subject matter experts and proactively extract the information required to develop strong content.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
