Job Title: IT Apprentice
Location: Humber Quays Office, Hull
Type: Apprenticeship
Salary: £11,440 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible start/finish times

 

As an IT Apprentice you will undertake an in-house training and development programme which will provide you with the opportunity to develop valuable IT skills and experience. You will also experience secondments within various different functions within the business to broaden your understanding of the business as a whole.

In addition you will undertake further formal training with an appropriate provider.

Responsibilities 

You will be asked to achieve development objectives within the department supported by a designated mentor. Key tasks will include developing your knowledge and experience of:

  • Responding to day-to-day queries and requests from management and users for support, escalating incidents that cannot be solved by collecting the required information and passing it to 2nd / 3rd Level support
  • Helping maintain inventory of all Equipment including laptops, desktops and peripherals
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining operating systems on new and existing equipment
  • Installing and configuring application software on new and existing equipment
  • Support of corporate systems (bought in and developed in-house)
  • Decommissioning old equipment in a safe manner following laid down procedures
  • Adherence to the team’s standards and processes and to implement Continual Service Improvement to help achieve constant enhancements to quantity and quality of output
  • Any other tasks or duties commensurate with the objectives of the post

Requirements and Qualifications

Person Specification 

Essential

  • Computer operating systems (any windows / android / linux / etc)
  • Computer peripherals (printers, scanners, storage devices)
  • Ability to communicate with staff at all levels in a positive and friendly manner both verbally and in writing
  • Logical approach to problem solving
  • A confident and positive approach and willing to “have a go”
  • Willingness to work away from home and travel throughout the UK

Desirable (knowledge of)

  • Server operating systems (Windows & Linux) and sysadmin skills
  • Application packages
  • Anti virus methods and security
  • Scripting languages (e.g. powershell / php / BASH)
  • Configuring routers / firewalls
  • Networking infrastructure
  • Ability to manage own time to ensure deadlines and SLA targets are met
  • Ability to research problems using a variety of sources (internet / books & documentation / usergroups / contacts) and implement solutions

Qualifications and experience 

  • Good GCSE grades 9-5 in Maths & English (grade A-C or equivalent)
  • Experience is desirable but not essential
