Dissolved Acetylene Facility
Following a grant from the Government Regional Growth Fund, BOC are constructed a Dissolved Acetylene Plant next to it’s existing Special Gases plant in North Lincolnshire.
As part of the infrastructure installation package of works Spencer undertook all associated civil works, constructing all highways (including new road bridge connection to the existing site), constructing all structural buildings and installing all site mechanical and electrical services.
Dissolved acetylene is used in a wide range of industrial processes by over 160,000 customers of BOC across the UK for welding and cutting operations, and in the hardening of metals. It is a key technology in many engineering and infrastructure programmes. The £20 million project in North Lincolnshire has been designed to provide the UK with a state of the art production and filling facility and is seen as key to the success of the UK’s engineering economy.
Spencer undertook the building construction works, including the Generator Building, the Cylinder and Bundle Filling Building, the Cylinder Exam Shop and the Amenity Building. Spencer also installed various energy saving and sustainability measures, including a rainwater harvesting and distribution system.
